CAPABILITIES: METROLOGY
Metrology is the science of measurement used to qualify precision components
Onsite metrology capabilities represent another example of Optiforms’ uncompromising commitment to continuous improvement, quality and customer service. This onsite capability relies on various instruments and equipment carefully selected, calibrated, and maintained to ensure their accuracy and suitability for specific measurement tasks.
Onsite Metrology machines
- Portable Touch-probe CMM – The FARO Gage measuring arm is used throughout our quality control process. It increases our ability to inspect and verify a multitude of mechanical characteristics accurately and efficiently. Providing accuracy to within +/-0.0002″, the CMM finds any discrepancies created by the manufacturing process. One of the major advantages of this device is mobility. It can mount on a granite surface plate or directly onto the CNC equipment. This makes in-process measurements possible and ensures our customers desired outcome.
- Zygo ZeGage Optical Profiler – Form and Surface Roughness Measurement (RMS)
- Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM)
- Electron Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS)
- Hemispherical Directional Reflectance (HDR)
- Thermal Handheld Emissometer (ET100)
- Agilent Technologies Spectrophotometer
- Multi-Sensor CMM Inspection – We have two machines with Video and Touch Probe measurement capabilities. These measuring devices capture measurement data and ensure the accuracy of your component. The ability to create an inspection program from a CAD/SolidWorks model eliminates costly inspection errors by automating repetitive inspection tasks. This represents yet another example of Optiforms’ uncompromising commitment to Quality and Customer Service.
Benefits of onsite metrology capabilities
Quality Control: Onsite metrology enables real-time quality control checks during the manufacturing process. Technicians measure and analyze various parameters and dimensions of the manufactured parts or products on the spot, ensuring they meet the required specifications. This helps identify and rectify any deviations or defects promptly, reducing the chances of producing faulty or substandard items.
Time and Cost Savings: By having metrology equipment and expertise available on-site, Optiforms saves time and costs associated with sending samples or parts to external metrology labs. We get immediate feedback on the quality and accuracy of the products being manufactured, allowing for faster decision-making and corrective actions if needed. This streamlined process minimizes production delays and reduces expenses related to rework or scrap.
Process Optimization: Onsite metrology facilitates the monitoring and optimization of manufacturing processes. Optiforms collects data on critical measurements and analyzes trends over time. This information is used to identify process variations, assess the impact of process changes, and make informed adjustments to improve overall efficiency, productivity, and product quality.
Continuous Improvement: Onsite metrology supports continuous improvement initiatives by providing Optiforms with valuable data for analysis and evaluation. Technicians identify areas of improvement, track the effectiveness of process modifications, and implement proactive measures to enhance manufacturing capabilities. By having immediate access to metrology results, we can implement corrective actions swiftly and drive ongoing enhancements.
Collaboration and Communication: With onsite metrology, Optiforms can collaborate more effectively with clients, vendors, and other stakeholders. They can work closely with our team to define measurement strategies, interpret results, and address any technical challenges. This direct collaboration facilitates better communication, knowledge sharing, and problem-solving, leading to improved outcomes and a more efficient manufacturing workflow.
Documentation and Traceability: Onsite metrology allows Optiforms to maintain comprehensive documentation and traceability of measurement data. This data can be archived and used for reference, validation, or compliance purposes. It ensures that accurate records are readily available, which can be crucial for regulatory compliance, quality audits, and customer requirements.
